Marriott Expands Presence Across Philippines

The Philippines report a constant rise in numbers of travellers – and big international hotel chains are ready to accommodate them. Marriott has recently unveiled its plans to more than triple its portfolio of hotels in the Philippines in the next five years.

Currently there are four hotels owned by Marriott in the Philippines. By the end of 2024, their number will reach 14, adding some 3,700 new rooms to the market. Marriott's debut five new brands in the Philippines will include The Ritz-Carlton, Element and Westin. They will be built in five new destinations for Marriott, namely Caticlan, Cebu, Davao, Mactan and Palawan.

“The amazing growth we’re seeing in the Philippines is testament to Marriott’s strength in and commitment to the market, coupled by a rapidly growing economy,” said Craig S. Smith, President & Managing Director, Marriott International Asia Pacific. “We look forward to bringing new hotels to the Philippines together with our trusted hotel owners, enabling more choices with unsurpassed experiences for our travellers.”

Earlier this year, the Sheraton brand made its debut in the country with an opening of the 390-room Sheraton Manila Hotel.

In 2021, the Marriott Resort & Spa Caticlan and Courtyard by Marriott Caticlan are scheduled to open followed by The Westin Manila Sonata Place, also in 2021. The opening of the first Element is expected in Palawan's Puerto Princesa in 2024.

Thai AirAsia Expands Its Reach with New Routes to Shanghai and Kaohsiung

Thai AirAsia has broadened its route network with the introduction of new services to both Shanghai and Kaohsiung. The low-cost carrier (LCC) will operate five direct flights weekly between Don Mueang (DMK) and Shanghai (PVG), and four flights per week between DMK and Kaohsiung (KHH).
