Tourist Arrivals in Sri Lanka Recovering

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka are gradually recovering. While the target of 3 million visitors set for this year and based on the results of 2018 when the country welcomed 2.3 million travellers will hardly be reached, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) expects that by the end of the year at least 2 million overseas tourists visit the country.

The same refers to the revenues – last year, tourism generated USD4.4 billion and the estimate revenue for this year was set at USD 5 billion, yet if the results will be close to the 2018's figures it will already be a positive achievement. An average spend per person a day in 2018 was USD174, and the Bureau is putting efforts in attracting more high spending tourists with a daily spend of about USD200.

The Bureau is optimistic about Sri Lanka's tourism sector potential. They are planning to launch new campaigns to promote the country targeting Europe in the first place. The chairman of the Bureau mentioned recently that the next year the goals set in terms of tourist arrivals and revenues would be reached.

Currently many countries have already relaxed their advisories regarding visiting Sri Lanka and the high winter season has all the chances to be a good one for the country's tourism sector.
