Alex Face's Graffiti Adorn Phang Nga Town

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) commissioned Thailand's famous graffiti artist Mr. Patcharapol Tangruen aka Alex Face to cover the walls of the old Phang Nga mining town with creative street painings.

‘Check in Phang-Nga: The Charms of Kra Phu Nga’ project aims at promoting tourism in the quaint town of Phang Nga attracting both local and foreign tourists. While Phang Nga province features some of very popular tourist destinations like Mu Ko Surin National Park, Phang Nga Bay or Khao Lak, the capital town remains mainly out of radar of tourists.

In order to further develop the Thai government’s and TAT’s strategy to attrat attention of tourists to secondary destinations, Phang Nga town, which has much more to offer than Thailand’s typical attractions of sea, sun, and sand, will be spotighted.

Visiting Phang Nga town will allow travellers experience the local way of life. Currently only 28 percent of turists visiting Phang Nga are domestic tourists. TAT hopes to increase this number to 35-40 percent to make the province less dependent of fluctuations in numbers of overseas visitors.

Three of Alex Face's creations have already been completed. All the three feature Alex' signature three-eyed kid Mardi. The first is dedicated to the mining history of Phang Nga, the second was inspired by the traditional Chinese Lion dance and is placed opposite a Chinese shrine, the third tells a story of centuries-long trading relations between Phang Nga and foreign lands.
