Krabi Airport to Receive New Terminal, Double Capacity

According to Thailand’s Department of Airports, Krabi airport, in the south of Thailand, will get a brand new terminal as part of the plan to bolster the regional infrastructure and increase the capacity of the airport.

When ready, the new terminal will boost the airport's capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 passengers per hour. It is expected that the terminal will be completed by 2022.

Also, terminals 1 and 2 of Krabi airport will be renovated. The airport will get more aircraft parking bays to accommodate up to forty planes at a time. Self bag drops and biometric identification technologies will be introduced to help cut immigration and check-in queues and improve overall passenger experience.

The popularity of Krabi has grown significantly over the recent years. In 2018, Krabi welcomed over 4 million international visitors from China, Singapore, Malaysia, Russia, UK, and South Korea handling over 30,000 flights.

THB 6.6 billion baht was allocated to fulfill the upgrade plan for Krabi airport. The money will be used to build a third terminal, renovate the existing two terminals and car park, and expand aircraft parking bays and associated electrical power infrastructure. The Department of Airports believes the upgrade will allow to double the airport's capacity to eight million passengers per year.
