HCMC Encourages Solo Travellers to Visit

Representatives of HCMC Tourism Department believe the global trend on solo travel can boost tourism industry in the city.

In recent years, solo travel becomes more and more popular over the world. “Solo travel” and “travel alone” are the most popular travel-related keywords searched on Google. Klook, a popular booking platform for travel activities and tours reports the increase of solo travellers on its platform from 31 percent to 38 percent in 2018.

According to the results of the survey conducted by Agoda and You Gov, Ho Chi Minh City is one of the top-10 destinations for solo travellers globally. HCMC eyes the development of this trend as a big opportunity and also a challenge for the city.

As solo travellers make their own decision on visiting sights and booking activities, travel agencies have to study their requirements to offer relevant services.

Tech-savvy and more independent than previous generations, the millennial generation is the driving force behind the current trend in the tourism industry. To meet their demand, more attention should be given to developing the city's presence in social media and promoting local activities and attractions online.

The best months for solo travel in HCMC are October, November and May and the city starts preparing for this year's high season to come.
