New Mega Cultural Park Will Be Constructed in Vientiane

Construction of Laos' first themed mega cultural park has started this month. The new park will be built in Vientiane.

The ground-breaking ceremony for construction of Lanxang Cultural Park took place on August, 9. This large-scale USD 80 million construction project is expected to be ready in the course of 9 years. Construction will be divided into three phases with the first phase to be unveiled in two years.

The park will cover about 88 hectares in Dongsang Hin Village, in Vientiane’s Xaythany district. The territory will consist of several separate zones including a huge play zone and an amusement park, a water park, a cultural park, a botanic garden, a zoo, a commercial and hotel zone, and a residential development area. The amusement and water parks are planned to become the first two zones to be completed. After they are put in operation construction of the next zones will go on.

This March, the Lao government chose a private investment firm, The Lan Xang Cultural Park Development, as the main developer of the park. The firm is owned by Oceano Company that specializes in road construction, real estate development and insurance and non-deposit taking finance institutions. The company also operates businesses in the fields of tourism and agriculture.

The new mega cultural park is designed to attract both domestic and foreign visitors. The government expects it to become one of the main attractions of the Lao capital when completed.
