Hong Kong and Tianjin Now Linked by Bullet Train

Since July, 11, Hong Kong and Tianjin are connected by a new bullet train service. The new high-speed train needs about 10 hours to travel between the two destinations.

The overland distance between Hong Kong and north China’s Tianjin Municipality is about 1,900 km with the railway track even longer at 2,450 km. Flying takes three and a half hour, and considering all check-in and immigration procedures as well as the time necessary for baggage claim and getting to and from the respective airports, it easily sets you some 7-9 hours back hence taking a bullet train could be a great – and slightly cheaper – alternative.

One-way second class tickets cost about USD160 per person while for air tickets you will need to shell out about USD200.

The new train carries 1,100 passengers and departs once a day. In Hong Kong, it arrives to and originates from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. On its route, the train stops at several stations including Baiyangdian Station in the Xiongan New Area, a new economic zone in Hebei Province, about 100 km southwest of Beijing.

The direct high-speed train service that now links Tianjin and Hong Kong is part of a new national train project. It includes laucnh of a new batch of high-speed trains to bring the country’s passenger transport services to a totally new level. As all the tickets for the nearest dates were sold out within hours from the launch, the route proves to be a success.
