Arrive to Penang Airport Earlier, Passengers Are Advised

Penang International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Malaysia. It is also the oldest airport in the country opened in 1935. With air passenger traffic congestion constantly increasing, the airport is functioning at the edge of its capacity. The authorities are encouraging passengers to get to the airport earlier than usual, allowing at leats 45 extra minutes to complete the check-in and documentation check process. For international flights, it is recommended to show in at the airport three hours prior to your flight.

If you travel by air from Penang International Airport, do check-in online if your airline offers this option. Print out your boarding pass and show in prepared for longer queues at security checks. AirAsia reminds their passengers that the airline's website allows web and mobile check-in from 14 days prior to the departure for all AirAsia flights.

Passenger traffic in Penang International Airport reached almost 7.8 million travellers in 2018, 7.7 percent up compared to the previous year. Busiest international flights operated out of Penang airport are Singapore (with five airlines flying the route), Medan (Indonesia; 4 airlines) and Jakarta (Indonesia, 2 airlines). Domestically, most passengers fly to Subang (Selangor), Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi (Kedah).
