Meet Delhi's First Monsoon Festival in Mehrauli

First ever monsoon festival will be held in Delhi this year. The Jahaz Mahal in Mehrauli area of South Delhi will host the event that will take place between August, 30 and September, 1.

The three-day festival will feature a lot of Delhi's monsoon yummy specialties including hot tea, pakoras, and sherbet. The program of the festival will also include cultural shows and music performances. The monsoon festival in Delhi is supposed to attract attention of travellers to Mehrauli as an emerging tourist destination. Heritage walks around the city will be organized to make visitors acquaited with folk music and local art. There will be also dastangoi sessions, which are Persian way of storytelling. 

Mehrauli is a neighbourhood in the South West part of Delhi. It is one of the most historically important sites in Delhi. During the Mughals reign, Mehrauli served as their monsoon residence providing the best opportunity to enjoy the season in the midst of Mehrauli's vast mango orchards and gardens. Some of the most famous landmarks of the Indian capital including the Qutub Minar and several stepwells like Rajon ki Baoli are located in Mehrauli. The Mehrauli Archaeological Park is home to over a hundred historical structures some of which are older than 1000 years. The tombs of Jamali-Kamali, Adham Khan, and Balban are found in Mehrauli, too. A very ancient Yogmaya Temple, used as a siddha peeth, sits in the village of Mehrauli.
