No More Plastic Disposable Toiletries in Shanghai Hotels Provided By Defaul

No more disposable toiletry kits for guests – starting from July 1, hotels in Shanghai stopped providing such kits by default. If you need one, you should ask for one – they are still provided for free but by request only.

This decision was taken by Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism in May this year. Hotels were provided with a list of disposable toiletries recommended for 'by request only' usage. The list includes a toothbrush, comb, bath brush, razor, nail file, and shoes brush. While guests still can ask for these items at the hotels, they are encouraged either to bring their own toiletries or to use recyclable daily consumables.

Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism assures they thoroughly considered each item offered for exclusion from the list of items provided to hotel guests by default. All these items have recyclabe variants and are of small size. Bringing such items as toothpaste, body wash or shampoo may be inconvenient for visitors who travel by air with hand-luggage only, so hotels continue providing them to all the guests.

This move follows the general regulations that concern sorting of garbage and recycling put into force recently. It is expected that discontinuing the practice of providing disposable daily plastic consumables will help reduce plastic waste in Shanghai
