TransNusa Now Flies Direct Between Kupang and Dili

TransNusa, an Indonesian domestic airline that serves mainly the east of Indonesia, including Nusa Tenggara and southern Sulawesi, launched an international route from Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara to Dili in East Timor last week.

In Kupang, the flights are operated from El Tari Airport. In Dili, the airline uses the country's only   Presidente Nicolau Lobatu International Airport located 6 km west of downtown Dili.

There are two weekly flights, on Monday and on Friday. Both are served by a ATR 72-600 aircraft that can accommodate 78 passengers. It is the first direct flight that connects the two destinations. Before, it was possible to travel from Kupang to Dili only overland. An almost 950 km route required a 10 hour journey.

Dili is the capital city of Timor-Leste. It is a small, charming, lazy seaside town on the northern coast of East Timor. While it is still a classic bachwater destination, Dili boasts well preserved Portuguese colonial heritage both in food and architecture. While many travellers visit here only to tick just another box in their 'visited countries' chart, Dili is a simple yet pleasant destination. There are several hiking trails including the one to Mount Ramalau, the country's highest peak, nice beaches like Areia Branca or Jesus Backside beach, and a variety of museums and churches.
