The Department of Civil Aviation granted NokScoot its Air Operator’s Licence on 30 October 2014. The airline has also submitted an application to Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau for a similar licence. Licences to fly between Thailand and Japan will enable the fledgling airline to compete with Thai AirAsia X on lucrative routes between the two countries.
NokScoot is a collaboration between Thailand’s own Nok Air, a subsidiary of national carrier Thai Airways, and Scoot, the budget offshoot of Singapore Airlines. When the new airline was announced, airline industry executives said it was a win-win partnership as both carriers would be able to offer passengers easy connections to the other’s destinations.
The aircraft’s livery is a pleasing mix of NokScoot’s parents. Nok means bird in the Thai language and the new Boeing will have a smiley bird’s beak across its nose and another bird on its tailfin. The fuselage has large swathes of Scoot’s signature yellow across it. NokScoot CEO Piya Yodmani has previously stated the livery represents fun and happiness.

Brand new Thai airline NokScoot is scheduled to take delivery of its first aircraft this coming Sunday. The Boeing 777-200 is all ready for delivery and a spokesperson for the low-cost-carrier confirmed that it will receive the aircraft on schedule.
