AirAsia to Link Penang and Melaka

Effective from July, 1, two of Malaysia's historical destinations, Penang and Melaka, will be linked by AirAsia's direct flight. The introduction of Penang-Melaka route is set to boost tourist arrivals into Melaka, helping support the state government’s target of attracting 20 million visitors this year.

According to AirAsia's representatives, this new route will further strengthen AirAsia's role in tourism in Malaysia catering for both domestic and international visitors travelling between states of Penang and Melaka.

Since 2008, both Melaka and Georgetown in Penang were added to UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. While Georgetown for decades remained one of the most popular destinations in the country, UNESCO's listing of Melaka helped the city boost local tourism industry significantly.

Melaka is a true gem for the cultural junkie. It is packed with relics from an era of colonisation, fascinating museums, countless incredible food option. The environs feature a huge rainforest, too. The diversity of the area is really quite incredible.

Penang is Malaysia's melting pot of cultures, fascinating and boasting multicultural history, typified by its European, Chinese, Malay and India. It's famous for the cultural capital of Georgetown, for being the home of some of Malaysia’s best food and for the beaches of Batu Ferringhi, amongst other popular attractions.
