Located in the southwestern part of the country, Kampot boasts a 45 km coastline, four historical and cultural areas, and Preah Monivong National Park, an ASEAN Heritage Site in Damrei Mountains featuring the abandoned Bokor Hill station. The province is also home to plantations of famous Kampot pepper that are a major draw for those interested in eco-friendly and agro-tourism options.
Indeed, the number of foreign tourists visiting Kampot province is getting higher year after year. And this number is likely to become even more impressive after the construction of Kampot seaport is completed. Currently, almost 25 per cent of the port is finished and the authorities are planning to get it ready by the Sea Festival – one of the main annual provincial festivals that is scheduled for December this year. The port will become the major gateway to the province allowing tourists to reach Kampot by boat.
The Ministry of Tourism encouraged Kampot vendors to produce more locally made goods to offer during the Sea Festival. Kampot is eyed as a province with great potential in the tourism sector thanks to its heritage and ecotourism destinations. Quality local products and services will contribute to the attraction of Kampot province in the eyes of foreign visitors.
In the first quarter of 2019, Kampot welcomed over 467,900 tourists of which about 57,100 were foreigners. The increase of foreign tourist arrivals is 4.4 per cent on year-to-year bases.
