Things to See & Do in Agra That Are Not Taj Mahal

Say 'Agra' and Taj Mahal will inevitably be the first thing to come to your mind. But are there any offbeat things to see and to do in Agra? Sure there are.

Keoladeo Ghana National Park
Only an hour's drive away, Keoladeo Ghana National Park is a birdwatcher's paradise. The core of the park is a huge marsh surrounded by dense jungle. The best time to visit is winter when migrant birds from the northern parts of the globe come to Bharaptur, Rajasthan, where the park is located.

Fatehpur Sikri
Not a Taj Mahal, but also a UNESCO heritage site, Fatehpur Sikri translates as a City of Victory and sits not far from Agra. It dates back to the 16th century when Emperor Akbar ordered to build a new capital of Mughal Empire. Fatehpur Sikri is a great example of Mughal architecture in India.

Agra Fort light and sound show
Agra Fort show literally shows you the fort that many guests of the city visit during the day in a totally new light. It is based on historical facts and anecdotes and is a nice way to while your evening away.

Tasting Agra sweets
For sweetteeth, Agra is a must-visit destination. Local sweets are famous all across India. Even if you are not much after sweets, do try Agra’s petha anyway. It is a soft, hard jelly like pumkin treat with coconut and other nuts added to the mix that supposedly was invented for Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
