Garuda Indonesia Launches One-Row Economy Class Seats

Garuda Indonesia has announced this Tuesday they will launch a new economy class option that will allow passengers of the airline to rest more comfortably during the company's long-haul flight from Jakarta to London and from London to Denpasar.

This new class is promoted as Economy Sleeping Comfort seats (ESCort). New seats class will allow passengers to lay down on one row of seating in the Economy class cabin – the trick that many of us use when we are lucky enough to find empty seats next to us. At first sight it looks like just three usual economy class seats but it also features some extras including a specially selected mattress, pillow, duvet and blanket. Other benefits of ESCort will let you appreciate several of business class previledges including a 40 kg checked luggage allowance; priority luggage handling; a business class meal and amenity kit; a special mileage 200% for frequent flyer program; a free USD5 Wi-Fi voucher.

Besides ESCort seats, Garuda also offers Premium seats which is essentially a normal economy class seat with an extra vacant seat next to you. This tariff has similar special benefits.

Two new economy options continue receiving contradictory reviews. While some passengers express their enthusiasm, others question the economical benefits and safety standards.

Prices for new seats start from INR28 mln (about USD2,000) and INR21 mln for ESCort/Premium seats respectively. They have been on sale since January, 26.
