Train Stations In India That Are Big Foodies Destinations

The only reason you normally find yourself at a railway station is if you are going to take a train or come to pick up your friend or relative who arrives by train. But these railway stations in India are unexpectedly good foodie's destinations.

Jalandhar Station, Punjab
Fresh and hot Chhole Bhature, a traditional treat from Punjab, is a must eat dish at Jalandhar Station. It is a fried bread made of maida flour.

Ernakulam Junction railway station, Kerala
Pazhampori is popular throughout South Indian cuisines. It is either fried banana or plantain in maida flour. Eat it for breakfast or as a snack and combine with chutney and tea. At the train station, of course!

Maddur Railway Station, Karnataka
No wonder that Maddur railway station is the best place to try Maddur Vada fritter which originates right from this city. It is often sold on trains between Bangalore and Mysore.

Kharagpur Junction railway station, West Bengal
Potatoes! Hot and spicy, so satisfyingly filling, Dum Aloo at Kharangur railway station will fuel your journey. Originally it is a part of the traditional Kashmiri Pandit cuisine.

Abu Road Station, Rajasthan
Everyone at Abu Road Station looks to have a bowl of Rabdi any time of the day – and for a good reason. This sweet treat of condensed milk, sugar, spicies and nut is very special here.

Ratlam Railway Station, Madhya Pradesh
Strange it may seem, but this station is really famous for flattened rice dish, Poha, served here. It is arguably as healthy as breakfast can be. It is served with with Ratlami sev and raw onions, and a hint of lemon.

Calicut Station, Kerala
The best known sweet delicacy from Kerala, Kozhikodan Halwa, is available in all colours, shapes and sizes. And the best Kozhikodan Halwa in Calicut is served – yes, you guessed it right! – at the train station.
