The annual Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan is almost here kicking off on January 31. The event will last 12 full days till February, 11. Snow sculpture exhibitions will start on February, 4. Here are some hints how to enjoy the festival to the fullest.

  1. Flight delays and cancellations are possible – get prepared
    February is the snowiest time in Sapporo, no wonder this period was choicen for the snow festival. Blizzards can easily result in flight disruptions and with some two million travellers expected to visit the event, delays can be a huge problem. You may want to stay another night in Sapporo waiting for the weather to improve – plan your budget accordingly.

    2. Bring warm clothes
    It is cold in Sapporo this time of the year and a visit to the festival means spending much time outdoors. Layers – termal underware, a middle layer and a heavy coat – are a good idea.

    3. Plan your meals
    Hot bowls of the famous ramen soup are available throughout the city but to get the best ramen it pays to check the recommended addresses. Try Minoya, Menya Saimi and Menya Yukikaze as an idea.
