Ly Son Island Improves Connectivity with Mainland

A new speedboat accommodating up to 148 passengers will connect Ly Son Island located in the south central coastal province of Quang Ngai, Vietnam, with the mainland Sa Ky Port,  effective from January.

The speedboat will ply the route during the lunar new year, known locally as Tet, and summer months, between April and September, when the island is visited by a growing number of tourists. Three more boats will probably be added later this year.

Currently there are five speedboats of the same kind linking the island sitting some 30 nautical miles off the mainland and Sa Ky, each accommodating between 148 and 266 passengers. The new speedboat will cut the travel time to the island twice – from one hour to mere 30 minutes with tickets costing from VND160.000 up.

Ly Son island is heavily deendent on tourism. This year, 230.000 tourists visited the island showing a considerable rise on year-to-year bases. While Ly Son does not offer great swimming opportunities, it is an unusual and atmospheric getaway with plenty of fresh and tasty seafood, picturesque vistas and glimpses of the local life. For those who still cannot live without beaches, a small An Binh island, quiet and laidback, is a great day trip from Ly Son.
