Pattaya attack bar hit with closure order

The Pattaya bar where a Kuwaiti army officer claims he was beaten has been slapped with a temporary closure order. Local district chief Sakchai Taenghor ordered the Spicy Girls Go-go Bar to close for 60 days.

The Bang Lamung District boss visited the bar in Pattaya’s famed nightlife hub of Walking Street early on Friday morning and told management and staff that the assault had caused damage to Thailand’s international image. Major Badan Nazan Alsubai-i, 30, claimed that he was attacked by bouncers at Spicy Girls at 03:00 on Wednesday morning.

The major told Pattaya police officers that he and three other soldiers from Kuwait were strolling down Walking Street when a tout enticed them into the bar with the promise of seeing scantily clad dancers. When the Kuwaitis entered the bar there were no dancers and so they decided to leave.

Major Alsubai-i told police that as he was trying to leave one bouncer thumped him and then four others jumped on him and continued with the beating. The major was taken to Pattaya Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his head and arm.

Medical personnel at the hospital say the wounds were consistent with a beating. One of the bouncers alleged to have carried out the assault, 29-year-old Daenthai Paksachat, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning. Pattaya police say they are still looking for the other perpetrators.
