The carrier launched the promotion late last week and it is scheduled to run through until the end of next March. The offer is valid on all Bangkok Airways routes except those which utilise ATR turboprop aircraft. The airline says there is simply not enough baggage storage space on this type of aeroplane to accommodate bicycles for free.
Bangkok Airways says the offer only allows each paying passenger one bicycle per flight. The rules also say the bicycle needs to be packed in a bike-bag or be collapsible and have its tyres deflated.
A source close to the airline said the initiative by Bangkok Airways allowed it to tap into a growing trend for green travel and also the booming popularity of cycling holidays. Compared to other Asian locales, Northern Thailand’s roads are relatively uncrowded and ideal for this type of holiday.

A Thai domestic airline has launched a promotion giving passengers the opportunity of taking their bicycles on board with them at no extra cost. Bangkok Airways says it will carry the bicycles for free and that passengers will still have their standard luggage allowances as well.
