Indian Himalayas Are Calling! Set On for a Trek This Winter!

Winter is a great season for trekking in certain parts of the Indian Himalayas with clear skies, white snow and jaw-dropping vistas of some of the most amazing Himalayan peaks. We've chosen five best treks for this winter – enjoy.

1. Sandakphu, West Bengal
Duration – 7 days; altitude – 3,633 m
Sandakphu is one of the oldest – and best! – routes for trekking in India. The trek starts from Jaubari and then passes through tiny villages before reaching Sandakhpu with amazing views of the Mount Kanchenjunga en route.

2. Nag Tibba Trek, Uttarakhand
Duration – 2-3 days; altitude – 3,048 m
Nag Tibba Trek is the highest peak in the lesser Himalayan region. The best thing about this route is that it is easily covered in a couple of days – say, during weekend, with the starting point – Mussoorie – easily reached from Delhi by car.

3. Dzongri, Sikkim
Duration – 6-7 days; altitude – 4,200 m
The head of the route is at Yuksom. It takes you through thick forests and close to Mount Kanchenjunga. Spend the night at Dzongri to catch the sunrise over the top of the Himalayas. Unforgettable!

4. Kedarkantha, Uttarakhand
Duration – 5-6 days; altitude – 3,810 m
Snow, snow and some more snow, anyone? Between December and April, you are guaranteed to see a lot of it! It is easier to go up from the southern side as it is normally less snowy there and get down from the northern side. Hiring a guide is recommended.

5. Dayara Bugyal, Uttarakhand
Duration – 6 days; altitude – 3,048 m
Another route for a very snowy experience. The route passes through snow covered forests and is not too strenuous – even the beginners can do it.
