First High Rise Steel Office Tower to Appear in Yangon by 2020

The first ever steel high rise office tower will be constructed on Paya Road in Yangon by 2020. The opening ceremony for the project has been held earlier this week by the local property developer Mottama Holdings.

Over 8000 tonnes of steel will be used for the construction of a 26-floor 111-metre M Tower built with the Japanese and Taiwanese technology which will allow to speed the whole process up due to the possibility of simultaneous construction of the front and rear sides of the high rise. The building will be earthquake resistant and will be able to withstand hurricane winds up to 200 kmh. Besides office shells, the M Tower will feature 265 underground parking lots. The developer is sure it will quickly become the landmark of the city (well, probably also marking the end of the era of so cosy, so authentic, so unique Yangon experience for us foreigners).

There are other high-rank developments of the same company on the way – some already under construction and some with the construction set to start the next year. These include residential apartments, office towers, shopping malls and public-recreation centres. Four of these large-scale projects including the M Tower are collaborations with international partners while the remaining five – an aquarium within Kandawgyi Park, Harbour Trade Tower on Strand Road, HL tower on Pyay Road, Bonnamy Tower on Kyaik Wine Pagoda Road and Mottama Business Tower on Mindhama Road – are 100% domestic affairs.
