NokScoot inaugurates Facebook page

Budget carrier NokScoot has launched a Facebook page even before its first aircraft has made its maiden passenger voyage. A spokesperson for the airline stated that any promotions to celebrate the launching of the airline will be shown on the online networking site’s NokScoot page.

TTR Weekly reported that NokScoot has not set a specific date for its launch yet, but is expected to take to the airways sometime during the first fiscal quarter of next year. NokScoot will operate out of Bangkok’s budget airlines hub airport of Don Muang International and will offer long-haul flights using a fleet of Boeing 777-200s.

NokScoot is a collaboration between two low-cost airlines, Thai based Nok Air and Scoot from Singapore. NokScoot’s logo is a cartoon bird that has been designed to reflect the carrier’s intention of creating fun travel for all. Nok is actually the Thai word for bird too.

Nok Air is a wholly owned subsidiary of Thai national carrier Thai Airways. Apart from one international route to Yangon, Nok Air only flies Thai domestic routes. Scoot is the budget arm of Singapore Airlines. Airline industry insiders say the new joint venture will give Scoot’s parent a toehold in the burgeoning Thai leisure flight market.
