While Ha Long by no means lacks tourists, it wants more. During the first nine months of 2018 the province of Quang Ninh where Ha Long is located, welcomed over 10 million visitors, almost a quarter more compared to the same period of 2017. Yet only 3.6 million of the total figure are foreign tourists, though their number is also on the rise with 19% surplus.
By the end of the year the total number of visitors to the province is expected to surpass 12 million with tourists coming from abroad reaching 5 million. Almost 70% of tourists arriving to Ha Long buy sea tours – last year they helped the province to generate impressive 18 trillion VND (792 million USD) as revenue from tourism.
The newly approved master plan aims at turning Ha Long into a friendly and well-organized sea tourism city offering its visitors all modern infrastructure and conveniences with sustainability principles in mind. The city will become a national service-tourism urban area and a driving force for regional growth.
