In September alone, 2.65 million foreign visitors entered Thailand bringing around 140 billion baht in tourism revenue into the local economy. Between January and September 2018 the country welcomed some 28 million foreign travellers.
Domestic travellers also showed an active travel behaviour – over 13 million domestic tourists travelled throughout the country in August with numbers tending to grow as the cool season is approaching. Though domestic tourists tend to spend shorter vacations making use of weekends and bank holidays, they make several trips a year sometimes setting on a trip as often as one or two times a month.
Judging by these figures, it is expected that by the end of the year the total tourism revenue will hit the target of three trillion baht.
Predictably, the number of Chinese travelers to Thailand continues to rise. During the first week of October, which was China’s Golden Week holiday, it grew 3 percent. The Chinese media continue reporting that Thailand remains the top vacation destination for Chinese travellers.
