Cambodia hikes price of visas

Cambodia announced this week that foreign nationals will have to pay an extra USD$10 for their visas to enter the country. The price hike means that one-month tourist visas issued at official entry points to Cambodia will cost US$30. 

According to a statement released by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visa fee increase is due to come into effect on 1 October 2014. Visitors can obtain tourist visas upon arrival at international airports in Cambodia, all Thai-Cambodia border crossings and selected ones on the shared borders with Laos and Vietnam. 

The price of business and e-visas is also set to increase by the same amount. Business visas will cost US$35. These are not available at every point of entry and visitors should check with Cambodian embassies before travel. Business visas are a better option for extended stays in Cambodia as they can be renewed in-country one month at a time for up to one year. 

E-visas for tourists issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will cost US$37. This fee includes a US$7 processing charge. Getting an e-visa does away with the hassle of queuing for visas on arrival at airports or getting overcharged for using currencies such as the Thai baht at land border crossings.
