The ferry linking the Indian town of Rameshwaram and Thalaimannar village in Sri Lanka may soon resume operation as it was announced by a representative of the Tourism Development and Christian Affairs Ministty of Sri Lanka on the World Tourism Day.

The Ministry believes that the Northern Province possesses great potential for developing tourism and is able to offer visitors a number of unique attarctions and activities. There are scenic islands off the coast in Jaffna, as well as other decent beaches which can be upgraded to become popular seaside destinations rivalling those in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka

The launch of the ferry service will allow the Northern Province to benefit considerably and boost tourism in Jaffna. The technical details for this 50 km sea journey have not yet been announced.
Also in the frame of developing tourism in Jaffna, the Palaly Airport located on the northern tip of the promontroy has been recently opened for civilian transport. Currently it functions as a domestic airport with regular flights to and from the Bandaranaike International Airport, the main air haven of the country. With the ferry route introduced, it will become very handy for travelling between the southern parts of India and Sri Lanka
