Jodhpur: A Quick Visit to the Blue City

Located in the very heart of Rajasthan, a northwestern state of India, the Blue City of Jodhpur produces a striking impression with its endless temples, palaces and forts all set on the background of stark landscape of Thar Desert.

The city deserves a while of your time but even if you are limited with 24 hours only there is a good chance to feel the soul of Jodhpur and visit some of its premier attractions, the locals assure.

Start your day at the Mehrangarh Fort, the mighty fortress from 'The Dark Knight Rises' which dominates Jodhpur's skyline. The view from the fort offers the best explanation why Jodhpur is called the Blue City. Open from 9am till 5pm, admission INR600.

It is only one kilometre from the fort to the 'Taj Mahal of Marwar', a smaller version of the cult monument of Agra. Built from intricately carved marble, Jaswant Thada is a royal Marwar cenotaph. Wall paintings and period furniture will transport you to the days of Marwar Kingdom. Open from 9am till 5pm, admission INR50.

Take a short ride to the Umaid Bhawan Palace, 5 km away. One of the largest private residences, the palace is the epithomy of royal luxury. Take a fresh breath – and a cup of coffee with great views – in the midst of green hunting grounds of Hanwant Mahal, nearby.

Add a spicy feel to your evening at the Sardar Market, or Ghanta Ghar. It is the best place to hunt for local spices and best instagramable pictures. Round up your day with some street food experience at Shahi Samosa.

Enjoy Jodhpur!
