More Tourists Visit Thailand in January–July 2018

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand has unveiled the preliminary figures of the tourist arrivals from January till July, 2018. Compared to the same period of the previous year, there is a 11% growth.

The top-10 source countries ranking is dominated heavily by the representatives of the Asian region. Predictably, China tops the list with 6.8 million visitors, a 21% more than a year ago. Malaysia is the runner-up with 2.1 million tourists. Korea, Lao PDR, India and Japan all come very close to each other with about one million tourist arrivals from each country with India showing the third biggest growth rate of 13% following Russia which supplied 16% more tourists in 2018 than in 2017 – 900 thousand pax. The USA, Vietnam and Singapore show more modest results with about 600 thousand tourists from each country.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand have reported that this year there are new tourism trends emerging throughout the country. They include 23% more arrivals by sea and also higher occupancy rates in the second-tier provinces like Rayong, Phatthalung, Chainat, Ang Thong, Nakhon Pathom or Suphan Buri. The latter being the positive result of the promotion campaign launched last year in order to boost tourism in less known provinces.
