Buddha Park in Vientiane, Laos, Has Got a Facelift, Wow

One of the most Instagrammable attractions within an easy reach from Vientiane, Wat Xieng Khuan, more commonly known as Buddha Park, has received a facelift and now looks very refreshed.

Now the paths around the park are fully paved and lawns have been trimmed to look neat and clean. Built in 1958 by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, a famous Thai-Lao spiritual leader, mystic and sculptor, the Buddha Park sits 25 km of Vientiane and is a predecessor of its Thai counterpart, Sala Keoku, located on the other side of Mekong, in Nong Khai, Thailand.

There are over 200 statues depicting scenes and deities of Hinduist and Buddhist mythology. All the statues are made of reinforced concrete and never fail to impress visitors with their ornate and sometimes bizarre design.

To get to Buddha park from Vientiane, take bus N14 from the morning market bus station (Talat Sao). The bus leaves every half an hour and brings you to the park in about 60 minutes. The park closes quite early – at 4pm – so plan accordingly.
