Started in 2002 in Suan Lum Night Bazaar, for almost eight years the theatre was enjoying steady popularity with both local spectators and foreign tourists. Alas, due to financial problems mostly because of the end of the lease, the theatre had to stop its performances.
Finally the new home is found – this time Joe Louis Puppet Theatre will perform at Asiatique The Riverfront, a large open-air mall in Bangkok located on the eastern bank of Chao Phraya River between Saphan Taksin and Rama III bridges.
The first two shows after the reopening of the theatre combine techniques of traditional Thai puppetry and modern technology. Though the plot features mythological characters, it tells the story of the contemporary society through allusion. Currently 'Narasimha Avatar: The God Of Guardian' show is staged only during weekends, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday while on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there is 'Hanuman And Suvannamaccha' performance at 7.30pm. There are no shows on Monday. Both shows are highly recommended and they are sure to add a colourful touch to your stay in Bangkok.
