Seven 'Pracharat' Markets in Thaialnd To Become New Tourist Attractions

Thailand to transform some of its most colourful 'pracharat' markets into tourist attractions, according to the Ministry of Commerce's plan.

Pracharat markets scheme was approved December last year and was supposed to boost local ecomonies  and promote cultural products and services. Currently seven markets have been chosen for the transformation program. Three are located in the central part of the country in Samut Prakan, Chachoengsao and Ratchaburi; one – on the Eastern Seaboard in Chonburi; one – in Isan (Buriram), two in the northern provinces of Lampang and Nan; and one more – in the southern province of Songkhla.

The main aim of the transformation is to attract more tourists to the respective provinces and to provide small local business operators with new marketing channels to sell their products.  The markets will get support to help them rise the quality of food and services offered and focus more on locally produced goods and handicafts.

The full list of the markets which soon will be upgraded into tourist attractions:
– Khlong Suan Centennial Market in Samut Prakan – Khlong Suan Centennial Markets Chachoengsao – Kad Withi Choum Chon Ku Bua in Ratchaburi
– Phli Fishing Pier Market in Chonburi
– Soh Krao Walking Street in Buriram
– Culture Avenue in Lampang
