Operator of Bangkok Klong Saen Saeb ferries hikes fares

The company which runs ferry services along the Saen Saeb Canal in Bangkok has increased fares slightly. The rise was effective yesterday and saw THB1 added to the price of all trips for passengers travelling between terminus piers at Panfa Leelard and Wat Sriboonreung.

The hike in effect means the minimum fare went up THB9 to THB10 and the maximum from THB19 to THB20. Announcing the increase, a Marine Department spokesperson explained the price of diesel had risen in the past month and now cost over THB27 per litre. Under a pre-existing agreement, if the price of diesel tops THB27 passenger fares are automatically adjusted to reflect this.

12GO ASIA notes the Klong Saen Saeb runs right through central Bangkok and connects locations including Bobae Market, Golden Mount Temple, Pratunam, Asoke, Soi Thonglor and The Mall Bangkapi. Passengers travelling the full length of the route have to change boats at Pratunam Pier.

The service operator says travelling on its express boat services is a far better option than trying to deal with Bangkok’s infamous traffic jams. Boats run every 20 minutes during the day and even places like Khao San Road are within walking range of piers.
