Contract for supply of new Bangkok underground Blue Line trains agreed

Bangkok Expressway and Metro has agreed terms with Siemens for the supply of new trains to serve the extensions of the city’s underground train line. A partnership headed by the global manufacturer has won the contract for the supply of 35 triple-carriage trains.

The trains will be delivered in three batches with the first scheduled to be shipped to Thailand late next year. The trains are set to be built at the Siemens factory in Vienna. Each train will have a maximum capacity of 800 passengers and the power units needed to deliver speeds of 80kph.

The current MRT Blue Line is 20kms long and runs from Tao Poon Station to Hua Lamphong Station. Extensions under construction will see the system extended as far as Tha Phra and then on to Lak Song. The add-ons will both launch over the next 18 months.

12GO ASIA explains that public transportation options are improving in Bangkok and now link the main intercity railway station, Hua Lamphong, as well as Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports, and Ekkamai Bus Station. Buying tickets for onward travel from any of these locations plus Morchit Bus Station is easiest when choosing 12GO ASIA as your travel partner.
