Bangkok Airways continues flying to Lampang

Bangkok Airways has announced that flights between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and Lampang will continue for the time being. A spokesperson for Thailand’s self-styled boutique airline said the timetable of three flights a day in each direction would run through until next March.

Airline industry sources in Bangkok had claimed Bangkok Airways was about to scrap the service as it was not financially sustainable. The airline has been competing head-to-head with Thai low-cost carrier Nok Air for passengers.

Although Nok flies from budget airline airport Don Mueang, both airlines sell base tickets at similar prices and operate flights at around the same time every day. From Bangkok, there are morning, lunchtime and late afternoon services.

12GO ASIA says that no matter what the airlines claim, competition is healthy as it keeps fares low for passengers. Lampang is noted for its horse and carriage rides, historic buildings and as the gateway to the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre and national parks such as Jae Son.

Asefa Limited supplied the image of the Lampang Airport sign.
