Bangkok opens new BTS Skytrain station

The prime-minister of Thailand presided over ceremonies to open Bangkok’s newest Skytrain station on Monday. Samrong is the first of nine stations to open on a Sukhumvit Line extension which will eventually link the downtown area of Bangkok and Samut Prakan.

To celebrate the official opening of Samrong, its operator is offering passengers free travel on the one kilometre section from the former terminus station at Bearing. The free fare offer runs through until the end of the month and Bangkok authorities say they will assess the number of passengers and set appropriate fares.

The rest of the stations on the Sukhumvit Line southern branch are scheduled to open before the end of 2018. Two of the stations are at the Erawan Museum and the Royal Naval Academy.

The Sukhumvit Line is one of two BTS Skytrain lines. The other is the Silom Line. The two lines link to an underground Metro line. The system links Hua Lamphong Railway Station and Ekkamai Bus Station. 12GO ASIA offers online ticket reservations services for buses and trains departing from these stations.
