Thai Airways suspends ticket change fees for Suvarnabhumi Airport flights

The president of Thailand’s national airline has announced the suspension of flight change fees while runway repairs are carried out at Bangkok’s main airport. Stand-in Thai Airways president Usanee Sangsingkeo says the repair schedule at Suvarnabhumi Airport is disrupting flight schedules.

She explained that because of this passengers transiting at, or with departures from, Suvarnabhumi would not be charged the standard fees if they needed to switch flights. A 1,000-metre section of the east runway plus the B1 taxiway closed last Friday and are not expected to reopen until early May.

While the unclosed sector of the east runway can be utilised for smaller aircraft, the shutdown has reduced the maximum flight handling capacity at Suvarnabhumi from 68 to 60 an hour. The airport is the principal gateway to Thailand for international visitors and handles more than 50 million passengers annually.
