Suvarnabhumi Airport runway closure likely to disrupt flight schedules

The planned closure of one of Suvarnabhumi Airport’s three runways is expected to seriously disrupt flight timetables over the next two months. The temporary president of Thai Airways says the third runway at the Bangkok Airport will be shut between the 3 March and 5 May.

Usanee Saengsingkaew said the shutdown was bound to impact on flight schedules and passengers should expect some disruptions to arrival and departure times. She explained that the runway was being closed to enable essential repair and maintenance work to be carried out.

Ms Saengsingkaew noted that Thai Airways’ incoming flights would be loaded up with reserve fuel supplies to allow for any delays when landing. Nearby airports will also be on standby if needed for flights to land during peak travel times.

The Airports of Thailand authority says passengers transiting at Suvarnabhumi Airport during the closure should allow ample time between connecting flights in case of delays. Suvarnabhumi is Thailand’s main international gateway. 12GO ASIA provides ticket reservations services on routes from Suvarnabhumi to destinations throughout Thailand and Southeast Asia.
