Myanmar to develop more northwest coast beach resorts

Arakan state authorities have put forward a proposal to establish more beach resorts along the northwest coast of Myanmar. State finance-minister U Kyaw Aye Thein says surveys have pinpointed nine possible locations where prime quality beach towns could be built.

He explained that the resorts would take advantage of the pristine natural environment along the lower half of the Arakan shoreline. If all the proposals get the green light, two resorts will be built close to the port town of Thandwe and the other seven on the shores in the locale of Gwa Township.

The finance-minister said the correct protocols needed to be followed and there was no fixed deadline for construction work to start. He carried on by saying that once all concerned parties agreed to the projects, developers would be asked to submit bids.

Ngapali is currently the main beach resort on the coast of Arakan and is rated as one of the gems in Myanmar’s tourism crown. Ngapali Beach is four kilometres south of Thandwe Airport.

Myanmar National Airlines and FMI Air both operate flights on the Yangon-Thandwe route. 12GO ASIA provides online advance reservations for flights operated by the two airlines.
