Laos delays UNESCO submission for Hin Nam No national preserve

Lao national park administrators say they have deferred the final submission date for an application to have Hin Nam No designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Officials say the final submission date will be in 2018 and not this month as originally planned.

A Khammuan Province spokesperson said the main application is ready, but all the support documentation required by UNESCO is not. The representative added that even after the application is submitted, UNESCO still has to decide whether or not to include Hin Nam No and so the listing could well be a long time coming.

Hin Nam No National Protected Area is noted for its majestic karst rock formations, waterfalls, caves, ethnic tribal villages and unspoilt landscapes. The park is located in east central Laos and close to the border with Vietnam.

If Hin Nam No is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site it will be the nation’s third and will join Vat Phou and the northern town of Luang Prabang. 12GO ASIA is a convenient source when buying bus tickets for travel in Laos.
