Thai rail operator transfers passengers to buses to bypass Trang floods

Thailand’s state rail operator was forced to lay on buses for passengers to bypass a flooded branch line in southern Thailand yesterday. Heavy rainfall over the last week has left large swathes of the south under low lying water.

The rail line to Trang between Khao Chumthong Junction and Ron Phibun District was underwater and trains unable to pass yesterday. State Railway of Thailand (SRT) officials halted four trains at Thung Song Station and say they will stay there until the floodwater subsides.

There was no news earlier today on when normal services will resume. 12GO ASIA says rail passengers travelling to destinations in the provinces of Trang or Nakhon Si Thammarat should allow for minor disruptions to scheduled arrival and departure times.

Khao Chumthong Junction is a stop on the mainline between Bangkok, Hat Yai and the southern border with Malaysia. Most trains travel between Bangkok and Hat Yai, and then on to either Padang Besar or Sungai Kolok, but there are limited through services to Trang and Kantang.
