Laos deputy-tourism-minister Ounthoung Kaophan just visited Tham Kaleang and Nam Lord waterfall. He told reporters he had emphasised that any development of the locality needed to also preserve Salavan’s pristine environment.
Mr Kaophan noted that the combined cave, waterfall and river complex would add another facet to Salavan’s draws and entice tourists into visiting. The province is small, only 100kms across at its longest point, and spans a section of Laos between the borders of Thailand and Vietnam.
Salavan town is the capital of the province and attracts tourists with a location off the mainstream tourism trail plus convenient access to wildlife preserves and ethnic Lao Loum settlements. The province is between Savannakhet and Champasak and a convenient stopover when travelling in the southern areas of Laos.
12GO ASIA offers ticketing options to destinations in Laos which include Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Savannakhet and Pakse. Hopefully, we will add Salavan when bus operators start offering online reservations.
