Guides receive on the job training at Bangkok Grand Palace

The Grand Palace in Bangkok is in the process of training its own corps of specialist tour guides. The Royal Household Bureau is collaborating with the National Tourism Department in the tuition of a troop of 200 guides.

The training is due to be completed by the New Year. The new guides will then be on duty every day in the public areas of the palace buildings, the grounds and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha from 1 January onwards.

Tourism Department director Anan Wongbencharat noted that the first batch of qualified guides would be assigned exclusively to the palace. He said the department had worked with Royal Household staff to map out a dedicated tourist route through the complex.

He continued by saying the tours would be three-quarters of an hour in duration and they would pause at 16 specific narration points. He added that once the training was complete, the guides would be expected to teach tour participants how to use auto-audio equipment.

They will also be able to advise on permitted dress code and court protocols, and provide facts about the palace and the Thai royal family’s collective history. The Grand Palace is an unmissable attraction for culture vultures.

People travelling to and from other locations in Thailand or neighbouring countries such as Myanmar and Laos will enjoy the simplicity of the 12GO ASIA ticket reservations procedure.
