Delayed Bangkok Mangmoom transport card to launch in 2017

Thailand’s transport planning agency says the long-awaited travel card for all of Bangkok’s urban train systems will launch in the middle of 2017. The Transport Policy Plan Office says the Mangmoom Card will be valid for travel on BTS Skytrain, MRT Purple Line, underground Metro and Suvarnabhumi Airport Link services.

Transport planning director Chaiwat Thongkamkoon says the card will be limited for use on trains and will not be valid on Bangkok buses, Chao Phraya River ferries or taxis as originally planned. The plan was also for Mangmoom holders to be able to use their cards at designated retail outlets, but the planning office has so far not confirmed whether this will become a reality.

Mangmoom translates from Thai to English as spider. The web spread by the spider was meant to represent the fact travellers would be able to use their cards to access any far-flung corner of the Thai capital’s transportation network.

12GO ASIA’s transportation options are a more realistic illustration of the spider’s web. We offer ticketing options to more than 700 destinations in Thailand plus another 700 in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar.
