Thailand offers fee free visas to citizens of selected nations

The government of Thailand has just announced a temporary amendment to its visa regulations for foreign tourists. The amendment will enable the citizens of 19 countries to visit without paying for tourist visas.

Fee free visas will be issued by Thai embassies and consulates to people from the European nations of Andorra, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Romania, Ukraine and San Marino. Fee exemptions are available to citizens of other key markets which include China, Taiwan, India and Saudi Arabia.

Tourist visas issued to nationals of the designated countries will be free from 1 December 2016 through to 28 February 2017.  The normal cost of a single-use, 60-day tourist visa is THB1,000 or its equivalent in local currency.

The Thai government says the visa waiver will probably encourage tourists from these nations to visit and could generate up to THB1,200 million for the national treasury. Nationals from the likes of Australia, France, the UK and the US are not included in the temporary visa waiver measure and will still have to pay the standard fee.

Thailand is an easy country to travel around and there are few places not served by bus, train or aeroplane. 12GO ASIA further simplifies getting around with an easy-to-use advance reservations service for tickets.
