This means that both the parks of Queen Sirikit and Suan Luang Rama IX will be closed to festival goers. Fireworks and the launch of kom loy sky balloons have also been banned.
People going to any of the designated 30 parks to celebrate Loy Krathong on 14 November will be able to apologise to the water goddesses with the release of small krathong boats into streams, canals and the Chao Phraya River. Parks open for the festival include Lumpini and Chatuchak.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's environmental director Suwanna Jungrungrueng asked people planning on floating krathongs to use ones created from biodegradable materials only. She explained that krathongs made out of styrofoam and other non-biodegradable products clogged up waterways.
Public transport over Loy Krathong is always busy. Pre-bookings tickets with 12GO ASIA ensures you can travel on the day and at a time that suits your particular itinerary. The image of the floating krathongs was supplied by World Festivals.
