The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) says Thai and international tourists are welcome to visit the palace complex, but they do need to bear in mind that the whole country is in mourning and should dress respectfully. The TAT says visitors should wear dark clothing which is not ripped and does not reveal too much of their bodies.
The advisory says men should wear long trousers and preferably long-sleeved shirts, but T-shirts will suffice if nothing else is available. The advice suggests that women’s upper garments cover their shoulders and they should wear skirts or dresses that cover their knees.
The Grand Palace will be open every day from 08:00 to 16:00. The admission fee covers entry to the palace, the Emerald Buddha Temple, the Royal Ceremonial Objects Pavilion and the Queen Sirikit Textile Museum.
Public transport between Bangkok and other locations in Thailand is still busy with mourners coming to pay their respects to King Bhumibol. For this reason, 12GO ASIA advises travellers to plan their journeys and pre-book tickets whenever possible.
