Bangkok Phadung Krung Kasem floating market set to relaunch

Thailand’s Ministry of Transport has announced the reopening of a temporary floating market in central Bangkok. A ministry secretary, Chartchai Thipsunawee, stated that the Phadung Krung Kasem canal market will relaunch on Thursday and will be entitled OTOP Wisdom to the World.

Mr Thipsunawee made the announcement at the closing ceremonies for the previous market fair early last week. He explained that the new market would open every day from 10:00 to 19:00 between the 3 and the 27 November.

OTOP stands for One Tambon One Product. A tambon is a sub-district. Each tambon represented at the market sells traditional Thai tools, toiletries, souvenirs and edible products. The market is a celebration of Thailand’s heritage cottage industries.

The stretch of Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem on which the market is staged is right outside Government House. This building is in the north central Dusit District of Bangkok and is a little way from the closest Skytrain and Metro stations.

The nearest station is National Stadium, the terminus for the BTS Skytrain’s Silom Line. 12GO ASIA says people travelling into Bangkok for the market will find bus or taxi the most convenient means of getting to Phadung Krung Kasem from the likes of Morchit bus or Hua Lamphong rail stations.
