Vientiane urban bus passengers to get access to tracking app

Tourists and residents using Vientiane bus services will soon be provided with access to an app which will tell them how long they have to wait. Authorities in the Lao capital have already taken delivery of all the hardware needed for the support system and now only have to rig it up in convenient locations.

The system will remove the uncertainty about when, or if, buses will arrive. Travellers will be able to employ smartphones to access software which will tell them how far their bus is along on its journey and how much longer before it reaches them.

The Lao Public Works Ministry and the state bus operator in Vientiane will be installing sensors, displays and control centre monitoring devices in the near future. The purchase of these was financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The Morning Market Bus Station is located in central Vientiane. It is the hub for city buses in addition to buses to and from the Mekong River Friendship Bridge I plus Nong Khai and Udon Thani in Thailand.

12GO ASIA offers tickets for Vientiane Naga Travel mini-vans to Nong Khai as well as train tickets to and from the latter. The mini-vans are an easy and comfortable choice for travel between the two locations and provide a seamless means of getting to Nong Khai and beyond.
